Next Meeting: Saturday, November 10th- 9:00am

The History of Banking in the United States and the Federal Reserve

Guest Speaker: Michael Swisher

Join WCR on Saturday, November 10th at Lake Elmo Inn as we welcome guest speaker Michael Swisher to discuss the history of banking in the United States and the federal reserve. Interest in banking and the federal reserve has exploded in the past few years with the bank bailouts and questionable decisions made by the federal reserve. Mr. Swisher is a local financial wizard with a unique and wide-ranging background that enables him to offer a clear and detailed introduction to this topic. We will begin with a brief discussion of the development of central banking in the U.S. and the dangers the Founders perceived in the politicization of credit, then discuss the mortgage crisis in 2008 and what we can learn and do going forward.
Michael S. Swisher is President and CEO of Bayport Printing House, Inc. He serves as a director of First State Bank and Trust, Valley Agencies, Inc. and Universal Financial Services, Inc. In addition to these he is Chairman of the Board of the Religion and Society Foundation, publishers of The St. Croix Review, and serves on the boards of several other non-profit organizations. He is an alumnus of Vanderbilt University, an Officer of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem, and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. He is also a member of the Philadelphia Society, and a past president of the Minnesota Society Sons of the American Revolution.
