George Bauman Jr. and his wife Virginia Bauman were founding members of Washington County Republican Women. George passed away at Boutwell’s Landing in Oak Park Heights, Minnesota on Saturday, February 19th, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Eunice Bauman, and his wife, Virginia, and is survived by nephew, Charles (Leslie) Meyer and grandnephew, Garrison; niece, Christine (Kevin) Schneider and grandnephew, Andrew. He graduated from Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis and Macalester College in St. Paul. George served in the Air Force and he and Virginia were active in local government and the Republican Party, along with Washington County Republican Women. A memorial service will be held at Boutwell’s Landing (south of Hwy 36 and the city of Stillwater, behind Wal-Mart) at 2pm on Satuday, March 5th in the auditorium on the lower level  near the north entrance. Memorials preferred to North Presbyterian Church, Bradshaw (651)439-5511.  A memorial was sent in honor of Mr. Bauman to North Presbyterian Church on behalf of WCRW members.

Gambling Expansion and Racinos, Part I

Join Washington County Republican Women on Saturday, March 12th at 9:00am at Lake Elmo Inn in Lake Elmo, MN as we welcome our guest speaker, former Senator Dick Day, to discuss gambling in the state of Minnesota, its expansion and the possibility of a racino.

Former Senator Dick Day served six-terms for District 28 and is a former minority leader. He resigned from the Minnesota Senate in 2010 to lobby full-time as President of RacinoNOW, which seeks to install video and slot machines at Minnesota horse tracks as well as increase purses.

$15 for members, $20 for non-members – includes a fabulous breakfast provided by Lake Elmo Inn. Those who choose not to eat breakfast may pay a discounted rate of $10.00 per person.

The Role of a Lobbyist

Join Washington County Republican Women for our next meeting on Saturday, February 12th, 9:00am at the Lake Elmo Inn in Lake Elmo, MN. Our guest speaker, Peg Larsen of Lobby Minnesota, will be discussing the role of a lobbyist in Minnesota politics.

Peg’s political pedigree includes 3 terms in the Minnesota house of Representatives. Prior to her legislative career, she was elected in 1987 to the Lakeland city council. From 1987 to 2000, Peg has held various positions including Lakeland Mayor and Commissioner of Public Safety.
